Misty Fjords by Holger Sandmann

Misty Fjords by Holger Sandman, and a team of supporting authors and other enthusiasts, has made some of our dreams come through.
The dream of seeing a wild nature world, with endless landscapes of mountains, fjords, rivers and valleys, come to life on our PC based flight simulator.

That is exactly what Misty Fjords is doing ! We've collected just a few pictures below to give you an idea of what the default Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 looks like, and what it turns out to be after installing Misty Fjords ! As amazing as these pictures are, they can not readily convey the feeling of awe when actually flying there yourself... in the sim.

Misty Fjords is unique among all sceneries published so far. It is not only extremely large (> 52.000 square kilometers makes it 20% bigger than Switzerland), and it not only features excellent mesh or nice mountains. There are other products that do that too.

No, 'Misty' is unique because it gives you all that AND many other new features such as life-like glaciers, the REAL coast line and river forms, taken from topographic maps, all the islands and lakes as you will find them in that immense area, all the roads, including the little forestry dirt roads.
AND it features custom made AI ships,
even with diesel smoke coming from the stack, radar turning and passengers on deck, looking at the moving wake they leave behind. AND custom made US Forestry cabins, strewn all over the place for you to find.... 17 of them, faithfully modeled by Mark Smith. AND even an entire bush airfield, the Antelope Trail Ranch from Bill Womack, reworked for Misty and looking better than ever.

And there is more..... Ketchikan and its harbor now look more realistic. There are ferry terminals, a marina protected by breakwaters, cruise ships and other vessels moored along the quays, and buoys blinking in all the waterways. Fly down to Ketchikan on a nice evening and you will feel like coming home! It looks so.... well.... REAL !!

There are other harbors modeled, Annette Island looks as it does in real life, you will find AFCAD2 files for all the airfields AND seaplane bases.

AND there is a set of custom made textures, based on textures from Ruud Faber's FScene. Change of season is more life-like with snow where snow should be, which is not just everywhere or nowhere. And lots of bold patches in the forests show where forest operations are being carried out.... the logger camps !

AND last but not least you have the option to 'freeze' the waters. A small batch file lets you swap fro frozen (and LANDABLE !) water and back. This really adds to the reality of the area, where skiplanes are extensively used during the winter months.

Last but not least there is the option to change the colors of the sky by swapping in some new sky textures made for us by Jun Kazama.

ALL the above features together really make this the Rolls Royce of FS Landscapes and, we think, more than worth your money. And it is just the beginning. We already prepared the scenery for existing Alaskan freeware scenery and there are more add-ons on the way, both freeware and payware. Many of these will be hosted on Misty Moorings, Inc., Misty Fjords' offcial fan site, enthusiastically founded by Doug Linn. Other communications around 'Misty' can be found in the dedicated Misty Fjords forum on simFlight.

Misty Fjords can be bought on-line from simMarket.

We wish you LOADS of fun, happy flying over and dreaming in Misty Fjords

Below the Bear Glacier in default and next in FSAddon Misty Fjords 'mode'
Next Cholmondeley; default versus Holger's
You thought Big Goat Lake looked good already? Think again !!
Some of the most amazing differences can be found in the way the rivers are portrayed. Here Chickamin River, default and Holger's
Hyder and Stewart, near the Canadian border. I flew there a lot and thought it was awesome. I had no idea what it really looked like... until now !
Another unbelievable transformation. Metlakatla and Annette Island. FS and 'real' !
Here is Neets Bay for you...... Notice the forestry areas where trees have been cut and dirt roads made.
Ketchikan and the Airport. Notice the harbor and ships that were added
Prince Rupert Island has also been 'improved'. Real roads, hills and landclass.
The Soule Glacier as it really is..... swap to 'frozen water' and you can also land on the lake !!
Another stunning change ! Tree Point Peninsula is NOT dry........
The area of the Upper Portland Channel shows again what the real mountains and coastlines look like!

Expected release date of this 'mother of all landscapes': STILL end of November 2004 ! Stay Tuned !
