Introduction
With authors as Richard
Goldstein, Holger Sandmann, Bill Womack, Bob Bernstein and others, FSAddon.com quickly
has built a name for VERY SPECIAL scenery projects. Orcas Island set
the bar at new heights for airfield designers. And Misty Fjords was a
revolution in landscape design for FS2004.
Hard to beat !
But NOT impossible..... as this first part of the new Vancouver+ series
will prove !
Some of the features
Made by Jon Patch and Holger Sandmann - it was Jon's brainchild - assisted
by a number of people, it yet again sets the bar at new heights for scenery
design in FS2004.
Vancouver+ Part 1 covers the Canadian city
of Vancouver and its surrounding areas, but ALSO a large
part of British Columbia, stretching
north and east of the city.
Vancouver especially has been painstakingly modelled by Jon, building
by building, and will most certainly evoke many "look at that's" from
the 'locals'. If you know Vancouver, you'll recognize its major buildings
and other landmarks. And the harbor and its facilities. And many more
things and places.
There is much more! Hundreds of bridges have been custom made, designed
with gmax, and put in their exact place, with roads, railroads and terrain
matching! Many other landmarks are strewn accross this 30.000
square kilometer area !!!
Holger Sandmann has done his magic again by creating an exact
copy of the real terrain, including the coastlines, lakes,
rivers and river beds, mountains and hills, forestry roads, glaciers
and such. And dams, waterfalls..... and even ski runs ! Check out the
famous Whistler ski areas !
To make sure you have also a place to FLY to - this is meant to be a flight
simulator software package after all - Jon has also built Pitt Meadows
airfield (CYPK) for you. This is a fairly large airfield situated
to the east of Vancouver, along the Fraser River. (if you're curious, you'll
find the airport's
website right here!). Oh,
and here is a photo
of the airfield !
More features
Here are some more things that you will find in Vancouver+, Part 1.
- You have purchased an addition for Microsoft’s Flight
Simulator 2004; A Century of Flight™,
that will turn a large part of British Columbia, Canada, (some 30,000
square kilometers !!) into the beautiful piece of nature that
it really is!
- You will have the City of Vancouver and its suburbs, harbor
and adjacent cities and towns under your wings, in incredible
detail, featuring many well-known buildings and landmarks, hundreds
of bridges, seaplane bases and much more! Some of the structures include:
the Cleveland Dam, refineries, tank farms, 200+ marine lights, marinas,
antennae, greenhouses and barges.
- You have purchased a flying environment that will
put you in the pilot seat flying around some of the most stunning landscapes
you may find in the real world and THE most stunning landscape available
now for FS2004!
- You also get the Pitt Meadows Regional Airport
(CYPK), a few kilometres to the east along the Fraser River,
complete with all the real buildings including the flying school, AI
traffic etc.
- You not only get the REAL coastlines, lakes, islands, roads,
rivers and glaciers (!) installed in your FS2004, but Holger
Sandmann has added ski runs: Whistler-Blackcomb (with
nearby seaplane base); Cypress Bowl, Grouse Mountain and Mount
Seymour just north of Vancouver; Hemlock,
east of Vancouver; and Mount Baker in Washington State.
- What is Vancouver without shipping!? We have added ships, courtesy
of Bob Langendorfer, and lighthouses. Mitsuya
Hamaguchi has provided us with some more fabulous AI
Ships that are true works of art. And Larry
Silsbee’s wonderful little boats zip around the inlets
and lakes.
- The ships GO PLACES, you can follow them in your plane.
You will see cruise ships sailing out into the Strait of Georgia, and
pilot vessels and day cruisers being busy navigating in between the REAL
harbor lights and buoys.
- Furthermore there are 19 improved airfields, 7
AI-capable seaplane bases, 11 unregistered or Private
airfields, and no less than 13 heliports (3
of which on elevated platforms).
Support and Other Contacts
As with Misty Fjords there is already an enthusiastic group of people working
on building a new 'fan site' for the area. Many Canadian
simpilots have been waiting to get part of their 'home' constructed for
them, and Vancouver+ is no doubt a major step
in the right direction for them. The fan site, called
Vancouver Landings, is being set up on a seperate server
(provided by Silver Cloud Publishing) and being managed by David Voogd,
Dan..... etc. You will find
them here.
And last but not least, we have our own User Support Forum for Vancouver+,
where we provide support for our customers. If you have a problem that can
not be easily answered in the general public forums, just come to the Vancouver+ Support Forum here.
Vancouver+ Part 1 can
be bought on-line from simMarket.
So what is planned for Part 2 ?
Vancouver International Airport CYVR is planned for 2007 and will be designed by Bill Womack and Jon Patch primarily. .
Vancouver+ Part 2 will fit seamless into the wonderful
landscape that is laid down in Part 1, and the two products will complement
each other, thus giving simmers one of the best areas in FS to
fly.
The two packages together will provide thousands of hours of fun for both
bush pilots AND airliner jocks, and when combined with a package like FSNet's
Co-Pilot, even for their passengers ! ;-)
Vancouver+ - Part 2's release date is not known yet. Check our website regularly for news and updates! We are also not entirely certain yet if we can make CYVR for FS2004... most likely it will be an FSX product now.
And now we wish you LOADS of fun, happy flying over and dreaming
in Vancouver, British Columbia
